Dutch Vogue?

There have been some rumors circling around for a while now about Holland possibly getting its own ‘fashion Bible’, Vogue. It’s not official yet, but the rumors seem to be true facts.

Supposedly, G+J publishers, also known for publishing Glamour magazine, will be releasing the highly anticipated magazine. Glamour’s editor-in-chief, Karin Swerink, will be Holland’s own Anna Wintour. The trial edition seems to be finished already. However, Karin didn’t want to formally confirm the rumor of her new job to Dutch newspaper ‘Het Parool’ just yet: “Who doesn’t want to be the editor-in-chief of a Dutch Vogue? But we’re not completely there yet, so I don’t want to jinx anything by confirming the rumors now.”

Although she doesn’t want to confirm anything yet, it couldn’t be more convenient that as of tomorrow, November 1st, she’s no longer working for Glamour magazine anymore. Sabine Geurten will follow in Karin’s footsteps at Glamour. We can’t help but wonder what Karin Swerink’s new job will be…

Olivier Rousteing successfully for Balmain

After the sudden and sad disappearance of Christophe Decarnin, due to health issues, all eyes were on Olivier Rousteing to see if he could maintain Balmain’s edgy reputation. Despite the pressure, the 25-year old designer stepped up to the plate and showed a stunning Spring/Summer collection.

Rousteing stayed true to Balmain’s signature looks by keeping the line’s famous embellishments and extensive details. For some renewing, he added a touch of classiness with well-fitted separates, looser and cleaner designs and also a hint of baby blue denim. According to the young designer himself it was all about “mixing the tailoring of Mexico and the glamour of Vegas”.

The designer’s long-awaited collection got raving reviews for presenting stylish trousers with flashy golden patchworks and studs, and classic button-down pieces. Luscious leather separates accessorized with gold cuffs, and buckles with a Western feeling also play a big part in this new collection. In addition, Rousteing also showed some softer blue colors with floral pieces to somewhat break Balmain’s customary black and white look.

You could say that Rousteing’s debut really got the audience longing for his future Balmain collections!

Stella McCartney in a sporty mood!

As the designated person to design the outfits for the British Olympic Team, it was no surprise that Stella McCartney’s spring/summer collection definitely had some sportive influences. Her catwalk show during Paris Fashion Week was all about summery, breezy and energetic pieces.

The show had lots of athletic elements like oversized polo shirts, bomber jackets  and breathable fabrics used for little dresses. Also, she showed us a lot of minimalistic dresses in one-toned colors, finished with smooth embroideries. She excelled in using the paisley colors craziness and in clashing different motifs and prints with each other.

All in all, McCartney’s new collection was a refreshing mix of comfortable and sporty clothing with a feminine touch. With her effortlessly sophisticated pieces she presented at the Paris catwalk, we’re already waiting for her newest collection!

New collection Dior

Everyone wondered how Dior’s first collection without John Galliano as head designer would be. Last Friday we finally got to see the end result during Paris Fashion Week.

Dior presented its newest pieces, made under the creative direction of Galliano’s longtime apprentice Bill Gaytten. Earlier, in July Gaytten didn’t got the best reviews after his couture collection where he tried to pull some ‘Galliano-theatrics’, but his ready-to-wear line he showed last Friday was much more promising. He showed some timeless styles that are actually wearable for the modern fashionable women.

Silk chiffon dresses with beautiful draping, romantic gowns, modest day dresses and easy-looking skirts were the showstoppers of the day. This new collection will certainly get a well-earned spot in the Dior boutiques and will be surely appreciated and sold by the Dior shoppers.
